We live in a
very visual society - “What you see is what you get“. That might prove
true with pasta, but never people. No matter who we are looks are only
surface. We must look beyond. Discover the person, not just their
shell.
All of my life
I have dreamt of helping others. This may sound trite, but it’s very
true. Growing up with significant disability I never thought it would
be possible. For years life seemed like it was through a window…
Something I could look at, but never touch. This is reality for many -
too many.

Disability can become all we see. Like a neon sign in the night
sky. Do you see beauty and possibility? Or garish and flashy
colors? Stars, moon, infinite...all become secondary. And all
because our eye is drawn to the closest most superficial thing.
Do the heavens cease? No.
Our view has become obstructed. We must learn to look beyond the
sign and see sky.
I have
never wanted anything more than to live a life determined by me
and to help others do the same. We are all different while we
are all alike. Success comes from human spirit, and that is in
us all. |
